Miriam Waks Poetry

Celebrating the publication of the powerful poem, "black as the air we breathe," by the talented singer/songwriter/poet - and one of my long-term mentees - Miriam Waks. The poem, her first publication, appears in Wordly Magazine and can be found here.

It was a joy to work with Miriam on this poem! You can visit her website to learn more about her work and hear her beautiful compositions and breathtaking voice at:                                     https://www.miriamwaks.com/

SHAME TO SHINE

What a thrill it is to announce the publication of Shame to Shine, Cher Obediah’s poignant account of her journey from domestic violence to healing and empowerment. I had the good fortune of editing Cher’s “diary in poetry” and found her stories, her openness and her passion to be deeply inspiring. To order, please visit https://www.cherobediah.com/

POETRY READING

I will be doing my first in-person reading in over two years on Wednesday, June 29th at 7:00 pm. This is the inaugural reading of the Milk Magazine Poetry Series, curated by Larry Sawyer, at Type Books, 883 Queen Street West. I will be sharing the stage with the wonderful poet, Khashayar Mohammadi. And it will be my first chance to share some poems from my new collaborative collection, Seduction: Out of Eden, co-authored with Janet R. Kirchheimer. Please find the details in the attached flyer.

FORTHCOMING BOOK .... Summer 2022

Seduction: Out of Eden, written collaboratively with Janet R. Kirchheimer, is a modern re-visioning of the creation story from the Book of Genesis. The poems are eclectic in style, and offer a lyrical interpretation of creation, the Garden of Eden, and the expulsion, drawing on the biblical text as well as exegetical, midrashic, and contemporary sources. With thanks to Mary Stewart Hammond, Gili Haimovich, and Yerra Sugarman for their endorsements and to our publisher, Kelsay Books.
